Mitcham Private Hospital would like to introduce you to Dr Babak Rad, a registered infectious diseases specialist with interest in perinatal and postsurgical infections, refugee health and tuberculosis. He has experience treating patients with exotic tropical infections such as multidrug resistant tuberculosis, brucellosis, cutaneous leishmaniosis and other parasitic infections.
Babak graduated in 2002 after obtaining an M.D. degree in general internal medicine and continued his career in infectious diseases field after joining the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2007.

Babak had the experience of working in very culturally diverse communities when he was involved in treating Afghan, Turkish and Iraqi refugee patients in Tehran (Capital city of Iran).

Working in Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia gave him experience in treating patients with opportunistic infections such as infections in solid organ or hematopoietic
transplantation, HIV infected patients and also treating patients with infections after neurosurgical interventions.
As a part of his training he was involved frequently in treating infections in patients admitted in ICU. Babak is also interested in being involved in the challenge of treating
patients with multi-drug resistant organisms.

Babak lives locally in Mount Waverley and will be available to help general practitioners and other colleagues in Waverley and Mitcham Private Hospitals when needed. He has
an appointment in general medicine in Box Hill Hospital where he runs a clinic on Friday afternoons. His private practice is in the LAP Surgery Australia consulting suites located
in Boronia.
