Your Stay with Us

A few hours after the birth of your baby, you will be transferred to the Maternity Ward . You and your baby will room in together during your hospital stay, unless your baby needs to be cared for in our Special Care Nursery.

Our experienced and friendly midwives and clinical staff will assist you with the practical aspects of caring for your baby.

How long you stay will vary according to your needs, though you can expect to stay three to four nights following a vaginal birth and four to five nights following a caesarean section. Day one commences on the day of your delivery. Your length of stay will depend on your health and the health of your baby.

 

All of our recently renovated maternity rooms offer modern private accommodation featuring beautiful pink and green accents, large windows providing natural light, ensuites and a number also have a private courtyard.

All rooms also include:

  • Mini-fridge
  • TV with Foxtel
  • Wi-Fi
  • Seating areas

Our rooms have been furnished to provide a superior level of comfort and luxury for you, your partner and your baby during your stay.

You may also have the option to upgrade to one of our Deluxe or standard Parenting Suites.

We appreciate that the quality and taste of the food offered at our hospital is a critical aspect of our patient’s experience. Our chefs are focused on creating a range of delicious menu options utilising high-quality and fresh produce, supporting local growers and suppliers.

Special consideration is taken when planning and providing your meals. If you have any special dietary requirements these will be identified as part of your admission process and our catering team will be available to assist in meeting your dietary requirements once you are admitted.

Your partner is welcome to stay with you overnight, as we believe they should be involved in the parenting experience to give you physical and emotional support. To accommodate partners, some of the private rooms have double beds. Partners are welcome to stay overnight when an appropriate room is allocated, subject to availability.

Discharge time is 9.30 am.

Family and friends are welcome to visit the Maternity Ward during designated visiting hours and are asked to be considerate to new mothers and babies. The Ward is closed to all visitors (except partners) between 1 and 3 pm to allow new mothers complete quietness and rest. Partners may visit any time.

The Mitcham Private Hospital Early Parenting Centre (formerly known as the Mother Baby Unit) was established in 1994 to provide specialised support and care to families experiencing postnatal difficulties in the weeks and months following the arrival of a new baby, up to twelve months of age. These difficulties may include: Feeding difficulties, Infant sleeping problems, Unsettled / irritable infants, Reflux and colic, Adjusting to parenthood.
