Breastfeeding Clinic
The Breastfeeding Clinic at Mitcham Private Hospital offers women with babies up to the age of 6 months access to a Lactation Consultant in a small group setting. The clinic usually operates twice per week from 8.30 am to 2.30pm. You do not need to have delivered your baby at Mitcham Private Hospital to attend the clinic.
On arrival the Lactation Consultant will welcome you and settle you in for the day, they will take a history relevant to you and your baby, including assessing your baby which may include weighing.
During the clinic the consultant will try to watch you feed your baby 2 or 3 times. We ask that you don’t feed your baby prior to arriving at the clinic so that soon after arrival the consultant can watch you feed your baby. Supervising these feeds will provide opportunities for you and the consultant to discuss strategies and changes to routines to assist with feeding your baby.
There will also be a chance to watch educational videos and discuss feeding and parenting issues with other mothers in the clinic.
The Lactation Consultant will liaise with your Obstetrician or Paediatrician other community supports if needed.
What to bring:
On the day please bring your baby to the hospital in a pram, bring babies change of clothes, nappies, nappy wipes etc. Please also bring the Maternal and Child Health Nursing Book (Green Book). If you are using a pump, bottles, teats, formula etc, please bring them as well.
Meals:
Morning Tea and Lunch will be provided and are included in the cost of the clinic.
Cost:
There is a small charge to attend the clinic (this includes morning tea and lunch). The fee can be paid by EFTPOS or Credit Card.

Your attendance at the clinic will be confirmed via telephone 24 hours prior to the clinic.
Cancellation:
Please call 9201 3111 if you wish to cancel the booking, bookings cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment may be subject to a cancellation fee.
