Dr Sophie Leong

MBB, FRANZCOG

Sophie believes in supporting her women through their pregnancy and childbirth and makes a point of being available and rarely misses a birth amongst her own patients.

Mitcham Private Hospital would like to introduce Dr Sophie Leong, obstetrician and gynaecologist.

Sophie trained primarily at Monash Medical Centre with rotations to Box Hill Hospital, Frankston Hospital and Mildura Base Hospital to acquire knowledge and experience in normal and complicated obstetric care, delivery and various gynaecological disciplines.

She was Senior Registrar at the Angliss Hospital where she honed both her obstetric and gynaecological skills. Sophie also spent 6 months in Queensland working at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, specialising in gynaecological surgery especially Urogynaecology and Laparoscopy, along with a stint with the Flying O & G Service visiting remote hospitals in Far North Queensland.

After acquiring membership exams she elected to go overseas to Ireland for her fellowship year. During this time Sophie worked at St Finbarr's and Cork University Hospital, the former a busy Obstetric Unit with 2500 births/year and the latter with advanced laparoscopic and urogynaecological surgery training.

After returning to Australia in 2005, Sophie established her practice in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and has been at Mitcham Private Hospital since then. Sophie also spent nearly 10 years at Box Hill Public Hospital in the capacity of Visiting Medical Officer, working in the antenatal clinic, operating theatre and ward, while supervising registrars and teaching medical students.

Sophie is committed to provide the best level of care for her patients and works closely with the team at Mitcham Private Hospital to accomplish this. Sophie believes in supporting her women through their pregnancy and childbirth and makes a point of being available and rarely misses a birth amongst her own patients.

Sophie is known for her approachable manner and welcomes calls from GPs for advice. She is happy to see patients at short notice or in emergency situations.
