We are also able to provide partners with a meal for an additional cost.
SPECIAL CARE NURSERY
To ensure the health of premature and ill babies, our nursery is equipped with the latest medical facilities. Our midwives are trained to provide the care and support needed. Expert medical backup is available 24 hours a day.
POST NATAL
You may expect to be in hospital for 5 days following a normal delivery and 6 days following a caesarian section. A comprehensive post natal education program is conducted during your stay which covers topics such as feeding your baby, parenting skills, coping at home and community resources.
BABY SEAT
For your baby’s safety, please have your car fitted correctly with a seat prior to going home. This is a requirement by law.
MOTHER BABY UNIT
In addition to the Maternity Unit, Mitcham Private Hospital has a Mother/Baby Unit. This Unit provides assistance to families experiencing ante and post-natal difficulties. These difficulties may include ante and post-natal anxiety, depression, breastfeeding problems, maternal exhaustion, and or sleeping problems. The Mother/Baby Unit is staffed by qualified midwives and psychiatric nurses with experience and knowledge in this field. Consultants are available if required, including paediatricians, psychiatrists, psychologists, lactation consultants and maternal and child health nurses.
MATERNITY CARE IN THE HOME PROGRAM
This enables well mothers and their babies to return home 48 hours after the birth. Follow up care will be provided by Mitcham Private Hospital midwives. Ancillary support services are part of this package.
ADMINISTRATION
Mitcham Private Hospital has ‘Preferred Provider Agreements’ with most health funds, which means minimum or no out-of-pocket costs. If requested, the hospital will liaise with your health fund on your behalf. We do ask that you kindly settle your hospital account on discharge. Please keep in mind that in addition to the hospital account, your doctor’s account and any expenses incurred as a result of X-Ray, Pathology or Pharmacy services will be billed to you separately. Staff in the Midwifery department will be happy to discuss any current fees with you on request.
Staff are also happy to discuss out-of-pocket expenses if you are considering having your baby at Mitcham Private Hospital and do not contribute to a Private Health Fund (Self-insured).
