Your Stay
ACCOMMODATION
All our maternity rooms are private rooms with ensuite, flat screen plasma TV with free-to-air and Foxtel channels, minifridge, minibar service and telephone.
Wi-Fi Internet access is also available in all rooms. You will need to bring in your own laptop if you wish to access the internet.
PARTNERS
Your partner is welcome to stay with you overnight, as we believe they should be involved in the parenting experience to give you physical and emotional support. To accommodate partners, some of the private rooms have double beds and a number also have a private courtyard. Partners are welcome to stay overnight when an appropriate room is allocated, subject to availability.
THE BIRTH SUITES
Mitcham Private Hospital has 5 well appointed Birth Suites which provide a safe and relaxed environment. Each suite contains all the necessary modern safety equipment for the birth of your baby. The Birth Suites also have access to deep baths to maintain comfort and relaxation during labour. Your support people are welcome to be present during labour and birth.
I Pod / I Phone docking stations are available in all birthing suites.
MEDICAL CARE
Our caring and experienced nursing and midwifery staff are dedicated to meeting the medical needs of you and your baby at any time of the day and night.
Our theatres are supported by specialist staff and an after hours anaesthetic roster, with access to specialised equipment and paediatric cover should they be required.
SPECIAL CARE NURSERY
Our onsite Level 2 nursery is staffed by experienced neonatal staff and midwives, and is equipped with the latest technology to provide special care for ill babies and premature infants from 33 weeks old.
Expert medical backup is available 24 hours a day, with paediatricians available on call to provide care and support should your baby require admission.
length of stay
You may expect to be in hospital for up to 4 nights following a normal delivery and up to 5 nights following a caesarean birth. Day One commences on the day of your delivery. Your length of stay will depend on your health and the health of your baby.
Discharge time is 9.30am.
If you and your baby are well, and you wish to go home early, please discuss this with your obstetrician.
A comprehensive post natal education program is conducted during your stay which covers topics such as feeding your baby, parenting skills, coping at home and community resources.
BABY SEAT
For your baby’s safety, please have your car fitted correctly with a seat prior to going home. This is a requirement by law.
MASSAGE
Massages can be booked at a time that is convenient for you. Payment is made directly to the Melbourne Massage therapist.
MEALS
Special consideration is taken when planning and providing your meals. If you have any special dietary requirements, please attach a note with your registration forms so we can cater for your needs. Meals for partners and visitors can be arranged at a small cost.
NEW! Delicious a la carte Lunch menu now available to maternity patients, prepared by our own onsite chef. (Partner meals are also available, for a nominal charge)
PHOTOGRAPHY
A professional photography service is available for your baby photos. Please refer to the bedside booklet for the days and times offered.
VISITING HOURS
To ensure that our new mothers and babies receive adequate rest, we restrict maternity visiting hours to: 3pm-4pm and 7pm-8pm daily.
VALUABLES
We recommend you leave all valuable personal items at home including money and jewellery. We cannot accept responsibility for the loss or damage of any item brought into the hospital.
