Pre-Pregnancy Information Evenings are offered regularly, that include educational presentations from an obstetrician and a midwife. Our maternity staff are pleased to provide tours of the maternity unit during these sessions and can provide you with important information about the services and programs offered at Mitcham Private Hospital.
Tours of the unit are also available each weekend. Bookings for the Pre-Pregnancy sessions and tours are essential so please phone to confirm availability. Midwifery Unit No. (03) 9210 3111.

Antenatal Education Program
To assist you and your family in preparing for the birth of your new baby, we offer a comprehensive Antenatal Education Program. Classes are conducted by midwives onsite in the Mitcham Private Hospital Education House and include topics covering:
- Preparation for labour
- Childbirth
- Early Parenting
- Breast feeding
- Transition from hospital to home with baby
We also offer father and grandparent discussion classes.
Our Post Natal Education Program is conducted during your stay with us, and is specifically designed to enhance the postnatal experience for families. Our experienced and caring midwives and nursing staff offer individualised, around the clock postnatal care, providing guidance and support as you develop the key skills required for a successful transition from hospital to home with a new baby. Topics covered include feeding your baby, parenting skills, coping at home, baby safety and accessing community resources.
The Breastfeeding (Lactation) consulting service is available to the general community, as well as Mitcham Private Hospital clients and is staffed by supportive lactation consultants who provide specialised assistance to parents experiencing feeding difficulties.
The Continence clinic is available to the general community, as well as Mitcham Private Hospital clients and is staffed by supportive lactation consultants who provide specialised assistance to parents experiencing feeding difficulties.
The Mother Baby Unit provides assistance to families experiencing ante and post-natal difficulties. These difficulties may include ante and post-natal anxiety, depression, breastfeeding problems, maternal exhaustion, and or sleeping problems.
The two programs offered through the Mother Baby Unit are:

Residential Program provides the opportunity to address more complex needs of families with infants. The program usually runs for a period of four nights and is for babies 0 – 12months of age. The Team will discuss your length of stay as the admission progresses.
- Day Program provides the extra care that may be required following the birth of your baby and aims to increase your parenting confidence and help you solve those feeding/ sleep routine issues to suit you and your baby. This convenient and individually tailored one day program runs from 9.00am to 3.30pm.
