When You Leave
Mitcham Private Hospital is an acute care facility. Your Doctor will determine the day of your discharge. It is the policy of the Hospital that an increased length of stay is only approved where it is medically indicated.
Discharge time for all patients is scheduled for 9:30 am. This time frame assists us with allocation of rooms for patients attending later in the day. If you are unable to meet this time line you may be asked to wait in the patient lounge.
If you have had a general anaesthetic or sedation you will need to be accompanied home by a responsible adult. You should not drive a car, operate machinery or domestic appliances, conduct important business or drink alcohol for at least 24 hours following your anaesthetic. If required, a taxi can be organised by the front reception staff.
On discharge the ward nurse will inform you when to make appointments for follow up, order any medications you are to take home and make any other arrangements necessary for your after care.
Before you leave the hospital please make sure that you have packed your personal belongings including medications that you brought with you on admission, X-Rays, doctors appointment details, any valuables that may have been locked in the hospital safe and any other relevant items and instructions.
Upon discharge you are required to present to reception to settle any out-of-pocket expenses incurred during your stay.
